Speaker
Project Duration

Project Overview
“Concord” is a speaker that merges together art, furniture and product design. My vision for home appliances is bringing delightful experiences that serve as a conversation starter while bringing harmony and balance.
Delightful Harmony
I aimed to design a modern and elegant centerpiece that would spark curiosity and bring a sense of calmness and warmth.
“Concord” is a dialogue within different materials and sound qualities that will captivate the audience through its immersive sound and aesthetic qualities.
Feel the sound everywhere you go
Concord’s body brings a rich 360° sound experience.
The bottom of the body amplifies low frequencies, bringing extra bass while to your music while its top delivers clear and crisp vocals. Together they bring the best experience.

Sketch and Ideation
Since the beginning the goal was doing a 360 speaker. Besides this I knew I didnt want to do a box or a cylinder.
After a lot of sketching and exploration on different body forms I focused on iterating on cylindrical shapes inspired by vases. The last round of sketching is the one illustrated above
Digital model making
The first step was building the speaker's body on Rhino so I could later 3d print it.
A 3d printing would allow me more flexibility on getting curves on a hollow shape that would have taken a lot longer on any other traditional methods such as wood turning
A lot of time and effort was put into finding the right balance between the form I wanted to achieve and the volume it needed to have so that the drivers could work properly. I Built and rebuilt the body until the form achieved the elegance andharmony I was looking for.
Hands on Craft
To build the top and bottom parts I created outlines that I would use to laser cut them into the plywood
I sanded these parts to cremove the burnt outlines
A challenging part was upholstering the tweed fabric I picked for the speaker as I had no experience doing this. Getting a straight, clean seam was the hardest part as the curvature of the body distorted and warped the fabric.
The white rope was added to bring portability into the speaker and as an unifying element with the wooden parts
Finally before assembling the parts I used a bretheable cloth to cover up the drivers
